Avalokiteshvara, also known as Chenrezig, embodies the great infinite compassion aspect of all the Buddhas. The great compassion comes from not only wishing all sentient beings be free from suffering but actually put it to action to alleviate sufferings.
The seed of compassion will grow if you plant it in fertile soil, a consciousness moistened with love. When you have watered your mind with love, you can begin to meditate upon compassion. Compassion, here, is simply the wish that all sentient beings be free of suffering.
An Open Heart, The Dalai Lama
In this short course, Venerable Losang Palmo will guide us on a practice of Avalokiteshvara Guru Yoga. The course will be based on the Sadhana written by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, called “The Inseparability of the Spiritual Master and Avalokiteshvara”. In the Tantric system, sadhanas are the meditation manuals that one follows to cultivate qualities of enlightened beings. By practicing this sadhana, we learn to cultivate the mind of Bodhichitta through skillful methods of visualization and mantra recitation.
The topics to be covered in this course:
1. Preliminaries for Tantra
2. Guru Yoga
3. Understanding Bodhichitta
5. Meaning of Mantra – especially the six-syllable mantra Om Mani Padme Hum
6. Commentary on “The Inseparability of the Spiritual Master and Avalokiteshvara”
The practice is open to anyone, no initiation is required based on the sadhana. However, it would be helpful to have a basic understanding of the Buddhist philosophy and/or an open mind to attend this course. We will also start our monthly group practice on the third Friday of the month, starting on 21.05.2021.
