Third of four evening course “Buddhism in a Nutshell” (English course)
COURSE DURATION: 4 Mondays, May 6 – May 27, 2019, 19:00 – 21:00 (the course builds on each other, but it is also possible to join for one of the evenings only).
CATEGORY: Buddhist Studies
Have you ever been curious about Buddhism? Some describe it as a religion, others as a philosophy, a world view or even a lifestyle. So what is it, really? First of all, through Buddhist practice, we learn about the mind and how to be more conscious in our daily life. We have a look at how emotions arise and try to find ways to overcome obstacles towards a more balanced life, in harmony with our surroundings. Finally, through Buddhist philosophy we analyze the nature of reality, how things exist and how everything is interrelated with each other. You see? Buddhism is as much of a philosophy as a way of life.
In this one-month introductory evening course “Buddhism in a Nutshell” we will provide you with an overview of Tibetan Buddhist philosophy and practice. The course is suitable for people encountering Buddhism for the first time, as well as for people who have heard or read some Buddhist teachings, but would like a more structured approach. The course consists of four sessions that cover topics including the life of the Buddha, the Four Noble Truths, and the three principal aspects of the path to enlightenment. The course also provides a brief presentation of meditation and guided meditations suitable for beginners.
This course will be guided by Venerable Losang Palmo, also known as Ani Losang. Ven. Losang Palmo grew up in Switzerland. She took ordination as a Buddhist nun in 1991 with her main teacher, Kirti Tsenshab Rinpoche. She lived for about 15 years in India at Tushita Meditation Centre, Dharamsala, becoming one of the centre’s primary teachers. Read more.
