Countering Pride with Humility

We continue with the course Transforming Problems from the FPMT Discovering Buddhism program. The course will continue every Tuesday evening until October 1st. You can join in the middle of the course, if you like.

Transforming Problems is the eleventh of fourteen modules being offered in the Discovering Buddhism program. In this module we are learning how to employ the special techniques of mind training or lo-jong as a means to transform problems into happiness and learn to like problems as much as ice cream or chocolate.

The course consists of weekly guided meditations, teachings and discussions.


Lama Atisha (980-1054 C.E.) introduced the lo-jong, also known as “mind training” or “thought transformation,” tradition of Mahayana practice in Tibet. Lo-jong teachings are quintessential Mahayana teachings in that their aim is to eliminate both the self-cherishing attitude and self-grasping. Like the stages of the path teachings, the mind training tradition is one that is embraced by all Tibetan lineages.

The Eight Verses of Thought Transformation, the text the present course is based on, is one of the most important lo-jong texts. It was written by the eleventh-century meditator Langri Tangpa Dorje Senghe (1054–1123). His Holiness the Dalai Lama refers to this work as one of the main sources of his own inspiration and includes it in his daily meditations.

Registration: No registration necessary. Drop-ins are welcome anytime, however frequent participation is required, if you would like to receive the completion certificate.
