Tantra gives us the powerful skill to transmute desire into the blissful path to enlightenment. That’s why the wisdom of tantra is perfect.
– Lama Thubten Yeshe
What is Tantra? How should it be practiced? Why is it such a powerful path? How can it be integrated in to our Lam-Rim meditation?
‘Introduction to Tantra’ is the thirteenth of fourteen modules being offered in the Discovering Buddhism program. In this module you will learn the definition of “tantra,” how it works, and why it is a powerful form of practice.
Tantra is Sanskrit and means “thread” or “continuity”. However nowadays this term arouses all sorts of powerful associations, most of which have little or nothing to do with the essence of Buddhist Tantra. In Tibetan Buddhism teachings can be divided into two major groups: Sutra and Tantra. Tantric teachings are considered to be more advanced, Buddha gave these teachings only to a selected group of disciples. However both of them have the same goal: To achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all sentient beings. The tantric path is said to be quicker, it works with visualizations and the transformation of energies.
In the Module “Introduction to Tantra” you will learn why it is such a powerful path, get an overview of the four classes of tantra and learn simple methods to practice. The course consists of weekly guided meditation, teaching and discussion.
