Discovering Buddhism: Presenting the Path

In this course you get an overview of the entire Tibetan Buddhist path to awakening. Discover the unique system for putting Buddhist philosophy into practice – the lamrim, or “graduated path to enlightenment.”

WHEN: 4 Thursdays, November 4–25, 6.30 – 9.00 pm (CET – Zurich)
WHERE: Online and Onsite
 Beginner to Advanced

This module presents the entire path to enlightenment in stages, according to the levels of capability of the student, as described in the lamrim. The first two levels are the teachings and practices shared by foundation vehicle practitioners (also called Hinayana) that enable one to achieve renunciation of suffering and its causes.

The third is the Mahayana, the Bodhisattva vehicle component of the path. It contains the development of bodhichitta, followed by the six perfections of the bodhisattva that culminate in the realization of the ultimate nature of the self and phenomena. And finally, the more advanced stages of the Mahayana path, the Vajrayana, are described briefly.

Discovering Buddhism is an FPMT study program aimed at giving Buddhist and non-Buddhist students a solid footing in the practice of Mahayana Buddhism. The program is not meant to be an academic study of Buddhism, it is meant to change our daily lives through experiential training in meditation and thought transformation.
