How to Meditate: Meditation Toolbox (Online and at Lhagsam)

This course is an introduction to meditation that offers practical Meditation tools from which you can pick and chose whatever is helpful to your own personal life.

The course will be offered at Lhagsam Tibetan Meditation center for all those who are able to come and will also be offered online for those who are unable to come in person.

Meditation does not mean the study of Buddhism philosophy and doctrine. It is learning about our own nature: what we are and how we exist.

There are two main types of meditations which will be presented and practiced. Stabilizing meditations and Analytical meditations.  Because of this twofold division we are going to structure this course in two parts.

The first part is focusing on stabilizing meditation in which we learn how to use all of our experiences in order to cultivate mental stabilization. We can use experiences that are physical – such as all of our senses, even pain – and mental – such as thoughts, emotions and even sleepiness – or can learn how to meditate even without an object to cultivate mental stabilization.

In the second part we will practice analytical meditations together which may help us to open our hearts towards ourselves and others and also helps us to contemplate on our misconceptions that cause us to have mental disturbances and thereby enhance our own wisdom.

In the end, we all want to be happy and free of suffering. And happiness and suffering are mental events. Therefore, what this course wants to offer you is to learn more about our own minds and how to use it in a beneficial way for ourselves and others.

About the Meditation Facilitator Farina Siekmann

After attending her first “Introduction to Buddhism” course in India at the age of 17 she has continued to study the Buddha Dharma from various teachers. She then intensified her studies in Buddhist philosophy and psychology and enrolled in the Masters Program at ILTK in 2017. Since her teacher of the Masters Program – Lharampa Geshe Jampa Gelek – has told her to accept whenever she is asked to share some of the teachings that she has received with others, she accepted the invitation of Lhagsam to learn together the wonderful tools that meditation offer for becoming happier and more openhearted people.


Cost: Suggested donation is 10 – 20 CHF. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds. You can donate upon arrival or online (via Paypal, Twint or E-Banking).

Language: Teaching and guided meditation in English, discussion in German and English

Level: Beginner. Everybody is welcome to join.

Note: People with severe mental sicknesses should consult their own personal medical doctors with respect to attending this course or not.
