Introduction to Mind Training (lojong) with Geshe Sherab (Part 2)

We are most happy to welcome Geshe Sherab for a teaching on the Eight Verses of Thought Transformation.

Lama Atisha (980-1054 C.E.) introduced the lojong, also known as “mind training” or “thought transformation,” tradition of Mahayana practice in Tibet. Lojong teachings are quintessential Mahayana teachings in that their aim is to eliminate both the self-cherishing attitude and self-grasping. Like the stages of the path teachings, the mind training tradition is one that is embraced by all Tibetan lineages.

The Eight Verses of Thought Transformation is one of the most important texts from the lojong genre. This root text was written by the eleventh-century meditator Langri Tangpa Dorje Senghe (1054–1123) . His Holiness the Dalai Lama refers to this work as one of the main sources of his own inspiration and includes it in his daily meditations.
Today the teaching ends at about 8.30 pm followed by a short Lama Chöpa (Guru Puja) for those who want to participate. Lama Chöpa is an offering practice, which celebrates the kindness and compassion of our teachers and lays the whole path to enlightenment onto our mindstream. Lama Chöpa is traditionally offered on the 10th and 25th days of Tibetan Calendar. Since it falls on this Tuesday, we will use the opportunity to offer this incredibly powerful practice together.
