The Spirit of Awakening

Teaching based on the 1st chapter of Shantideva’s “Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life” by Ven. Tenzin Gendun

BUDDHIST STUDY – SEMINAR

We are most happy to get this opportunity to have Ven. Gendun with us, giving a teaching about the beautiful text of Shantideva “A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life”.

Today we will take a closer look at chapter 1 “The Benefits of the Spirit of Awakening”, which will help us to understand the importance of the good heart and altruistic motivation, as from the Mahayana perspective, this is the only way to achieve happiness and ultimately enlightenment.

As pointed out by Shantideva:

Those who long to overcome the abundant miseries of mundane existence, those who wish to dispel the adversities of sentient beings, and those who yearn to experience a myriad of joys should never forsake the Spirit of Awakening.

If you are unfamiliar with Shantideva’s text, you may benefit from joining us on Tuesday for an introduction.
