In Tibetan Buddhism, ‘dependent arising’ is a central framework that explains how phenomena and persons come into existence through causes and conditions, and that nothing exists independently and randomly, nor is it permanent. Contemplating this interdependence of phenomena and persons, we can generate gratitude and compassion towards all living beings, whether friend, foe or stranger, allowing us to realize that we are all part of the same world and all wish to be happy.
Everything relies on everything else in the cosmos in order to manifest – whether a star, a cloud, a flower, a tree, or you and me.
~Thich Nhat Hanh
